NBA World Reacts To The LeBron James Contract News

ESPN reported Wednesday that the superstar signed a two-year, $97.1 million extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. His new deal includes a player option for the 2024-25 season.

As noted by ESPN's Bobby Marks, James would pass on to Kevin Durant in the all-time salary income for an NBA player.

Shutting down LeBron ahead of this season could help the Lakers build up the roster in hopes of bringing the 18-time All-Star back to the NBA Finals.

If he accepts the player's option, the deal will carry James through his age-40 season. In such a situation, it is possible that he will end his career with the Lakers.

However, most NBA fans immediately made the same observation. That choice coincides with that of his son, Bronie James, who becomes eligible to enter the league.

Earlier this year, LeBron told Jason Lloyd of The Athletic that he would "do whatever it takes to play with my son for a year" before retiring.

If he maintains the same plan in two years, LeBron will decline the player option and join whatever team drafts Bronie.
